Many of our Tarkio friends have expressed interest in Panama. We had two extraordinary trips in 2008 and we are going back again! We are excited to be offering an Intermedite and Advanced trip during October 2010. Both Tarkio trips will include 7 days of paddling in the Chiriqui providence. Panama has it all when it comes to paddling!

What's included in "all inclusive":

  • Two nights stay Panama City hotel (pre and post paddling)
  • Transportation to and from airport/hotel in Panama City
  • Panama domestic round-trip flight Panama City/David (Chiriqui proviince)
  • Food and Lodging (hotel style) during our stay in the Chiriqui province.
  • Quality kayak instruction and guidance
  • Kayak Rental
  • All transportation during paddling expedition
  • Cold beer at the take-out

Panama's whitewater can be described in one word: CONTINUOUS! Beginning with beautiful Class I & II sections for the novice paddlers and stepping up all the way to Class 5 (and some change) creeks. Regardless of what you are looking for, there are plenty of options.

Most of our paddling will be in the Chiriqui province because this is where the best water is located. With mountains over 11,000 feet and over 100 inches of rainfall annually, Panama is truly a paddler's paradise.

In the Chiriqui province, there are over 35 runs within no more than a couple of hours drive from Boquete!

Some fun and enticing tid-bits on Panama:

  • Panama uses the US dollar as it currency so you don't have to change money!
  • You can travel from the mountains to the beach in an hour
  • 14 national parks comprising 22% of Panama!
  • Panamanians are incredibly friendly and helpful
  • Most of Panama is sparsely populated and much of it is remote and hard to access (which means more fun for us).
  • Panama has three independence days in November and 3 celebrations
  • Highest point: Volcan de Chiriqui 3,475 m (11,400 feet)
  • Population: 3,200,000
  • Panama has a constitutional democracy
  • Average per capita income: $7,900
  • Literacy rate:  92.6%
  • Panama has seven different indigenous groups comprising about 5-10% of the populationpuma2482
  • Panama has around 480 rivers and over 1500 islands!
