Our base on the Clark Fork River provides the ideal setting for a kayaking camp. Young paddlers spend three days developing a solid foundation of kayaking and river safety skills. Our camps are perfectly located on 50 riverside acres at the take-out of a phenomenal class III play run and the put-in to an ideal class I-II learning section. Instructors have extensive experience teaching youth and our program is tailored to meet the specific needs of young paddlers. The emphasis is on safety and making learning to kayak fun! Participants leave Tarkio eager to pursue the sport of kayaking with the skills to do it safely.

Our camps are participatory, meaning that everyone is involved in all aspects of the camp environment. Days are spent paddling on the Clark Fork's warm water and evenings are filled with a variety of supervised activities including hikes, ultimate frisbee, softball, and campfires. We spend nights camped on the riverbank with meals and classes taking place in our comfortable, communal facilities. All camp activities are supervised and are designed to foster leadership skills and cooperation. We are proud to offer what we feel is the best kayak instruction for youth anywhere and, without a doubt, the most fun!

Ages: 8 - 17

Skill Level: All levels, from the novice to the advanced.

Logistics: Campers can fly in and out of the Missoula airport. They will be met at the airport by Tarkio staff members and transported to our river base located 35 minutes away. We ask that campers fly in the evening before their camp is to begin.

Skill Level: Shared rooms for our Youth Clinic will be available at our Tarkio River Base.
